slug proof alternatives to tulips

For the second year, the tulips in my (drier) front garden have done well, whereas those in the (damper, shadier) back garden have been munched, pretty much to death. The leaves come up, and are then destroyed as soon as my back is turned. Any suggestions for alternative bulbs that flower around the same time as tulips, but doesn't get eaten, to follow on from daffodils. Would camassias be any good?
