A tree for a brick bed
in Plants
Hi everyone—
First post! Am very happy to be here.
We have two new brick raised beds about 12ft x 2ft x 2ft, which meet at the ends to form one big L-shaped bed round two sides of our patio. The beds are open-bottomed to the soil below.
I want to plant a tree in the vertex for some privacy, but I'm worried the root system will burst the brick beds in a couple of years' time.
What – if anything – can I have in my new bed? My partner and I like a flowering cherry, or a crab apple (Malus evereste, particularly).
Any advice very gratefully received.

Thanks, pansy!
I have red sentinel.
In the end we went for a prunus shirotae in the raised bed, and put a malus pink perfection elsewhere in the garden to satisfy our craven desire for a crab apple.
Haha yes indeed. That's really nice. I'll tell my partner.
