Woodlice in wooden garden statue

Hi all, I'm afraid to say my green fingers are nonexistent and my attempts to find a solution via Google have been unsuccessful... We have a large wooden statue of a bear in our garden that my partner inherited from his grandad. We love the thing, which is about 7 feet tall! But we're having a problem with a woodlouse infestation in the Base image I don't want to kill them off, but I'd like to remove them and discourage them from returning, otherwise the bear will slowly disappear... It's now standing on patio slabs but it previously was on a lovely damp mossy area. Please can anyone suggest anything? We have a dog so I don't want to risk him ingesting anything toxic either... Thanks in advance!! Jen

The woodlice won't be causing the rot, just taking advantage of the fact that it's happening. I would treat the wood with a wood hardening solution available from DIY places. That should stop the rot.
