For a fertiliser roughly chop the leaves, put in a bucket or any container fill up with water so all the leaves are covered ,weight down with a brick and leave for a week or so.
the ratio that I use is half a cup to a gallon or even a bit less, it's very strong and VERY,VERY smelly. Good stuff and it's free.
It's high in potash, so good for flowers/fruit. You can do the same with nettles, which are higher in nitrogen. Also extremely smelly.
The other good thing is that its long root brings up nutrients from deep in the soil - it taps the parts that other roots can't reach.
my thanks but i have a large amount of horse manure is it possilble to use it as liquid manure can anybody tell me its bennefits and what ratio.
If you have a lot of horse muck, I'd stack it till it's well-rotted and then distribute it liberally on your rhubarb and roses.
Fresh, some of it can go in the compost heap where it'll help enormously.
To make a liquid feed from it, put some in a sack and suspend it in a dustbin/large bucket of water for a few days?weeks? till the water looks like liquid manure. I have to say I've never done this with manure though.
Hi all
I have many comfrey plants that I manage around my garden which I have planted in time to keep them growing where I want them too.
This is a fantastic plant and I make lots of feed for the garden and greenhouse over the year. I have a water barrel that I use where I chop it up and leave to rot down and also which is easier to handle it stinks but works is 4/6 pint milk cartons.
Simpley stuff comfrey leaves into bottle fill with water and wait six weeks, wallah you have feed to dilute for feeding.
You can also use it as mulch around plants, in trenches before planting, accelerator for your compost and eat the leaves.
I usually get five cuts from my plants so there is plenty to go around with my fellow allotment network of friends
ps the plants have just started to move so will when I go up my garden take a picky however the weather in the North east of England is a bit crappy with all seasons coming at once. Snow, hail, rain, and sunshine

Hi Zoomer
Not sure about mixing the two as one is potash and the other is nitrogen so they both benefit different.
Comfrey - toms, potatoes, root crops, mulching, compost
Nettles - brasicas
Maybe other members have some information however i have always used them seperate with good results
Happy gardening
HELLO,Chris172 & Zoomer 44.take it from a old timer you can use both nettles and comfrey together the potash feeds the roots to make a strong root system and its for the fruit and everything else and the nettles are perfect for producing nitrogen for the leaves let me know how you get on .
