in Fruit & veg
Hello, my understanding is that these are roundworms, should these not be already in volume why do we need to add?
thanks Pam

Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita are already present in the soil so you aren’t adding anything foreign to the garden. However, their natural numbers are insufficient to control the average garden’s voracious slug population, hence reinforcements are required. Once the slug population has diminished, the nematodes will die back to their natural levels again.
This is the reason
verdun once the increased population of nematodes have munched all the slugs they may be so hungry that they turn their attention to the woodlouse invasion
Thanks for all your replies , I have just planted out my veg patch and didn't want to lose lettuces to slugs as I know they love them from previous experience

I don't think there will be any backlash as they soon diminish sun, over dry soil ,cold will kill nematoids, I believe in use twice a year to kill the underground ones it is said there are 20,000 slugs in the average garden all getting bigger if you don't use nematodes.Be afraid Verdon them slugs will eat everything keep moving when your in the garden
This is probably a very silly question...
I've just bought some nematodes but wasn't sure whether I should wait to apply them until after I've sown/planted my veg. Do the slugs stay in the soil even when it is bare or do they only come in when there's something to eat?
Nematodes are only active at a temperature above 5C. Up here I do not use until early May.
