Japanese Wineberries - I've bought the plants but don't know how to plant them!
in Fruit & veg
Hi all
I've bought some Japanese Wineberries form Crocus. They have come in tall thin 2L pots (22cm tall). I want to plant them out into their permanent beds today but cannot find any info on how to do it....
Should I make holes large enough to accommodate the pots and then plant as per the pot size. Or should I gently tease the roots out and plant them more horizontally in trenches, as you would plant raspberries?
Any help would be fantastic as I want to make sure I get this right.
Huge thanks

Hi again
One other thing - once I do know how to plant them out, should i do it now or should I wait for this cold spell to pass? I'm in East Anglia....
Cheers
I always use the pot as a guide to the size of hole needed for a new plant. Dig the hole slightly bigger than the pot (unless you, like me, are bone idle) and tease the roots out a bit. As to whether or not to plant them out, are you keeping them in a greenhouse for the moment or are they facing the bitter weather in the cold outdoors? If they are already outside then you may as well plant them out but if they are keeping warm and dry in the greenhouse, don't shock the poor things by throwing them out to face this cold snap. Leave it until the met office shows something yellow sliding over the country.
