Lavender

.... on a different and altogether more pleasant subject, I want a lavender border around the front of a NW facing seating area.... Can anyone recommend fool proof, hard as nails, tough as old boots lavendula I should pick.... not had huge amount of luck with lavender so far....I'd like something that grows quite bushy so it creates a small hedge around this area.... Gonna have a bench and arch over which will have climbing rose, clems  etc

You'll need at least 6 hours of direct sun daily- especially in winter on well drained soil

Think it may... just about...soil is well drained. Any varieties you'd recommend?

I chose lavender because I live in a cottage and creating trad cottage garden so trying to keep things authentic.

I agree with Philippa, Sarcococca would be a much better bet and actually requires shade or part shade.  Evergreen too. image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
