Hi guys, the back lawn of my house is of substantial size. There is a lot of moisture in the land though and a lot of rushes have started developing. At first I passed no remarks and cut them down, but they seem to grow back so quick, and look rather unpleasant. Garden roughly could be 30 metres x 20 and this problem is spread over the bulk of it. What's my best option? All advice greatly appreciated ????????

Digging them up is the only real option.
Improve the drainage Padraig. Repeated applications of grit will eventually get rid of them.
You could probably sell them to basket weavers, my grandmother revived the craft of rush woven goods in Bedfordshire in the 1960's and would harvest them from the river - not so many available now with dredging - sh'e dry great bolts of them in the sun over a couple of weeks and then make chair seats, baskets etc which she sold to Harrods and London shops.
They are a rare commodity now and hard to find. My aunt who carried it on had to give it up because she couldn't find a supplier of rushes.
Or dig a big hole and let the water drain into your new pond.
