    James, I've planted my parsnips under milk bottles you have to make sure you put a lot of soil around them so they don't get blown away. I'm in the west Midlands, Redditch. I'm going to do the same with my kaleimage

  • I've got rhubarb under a bottle and he seems quite happy, hopefully this is the last of the cold spells!

  • Seems like this year the cold nights and frosts are lasting a lot longer into the year, or is it just me?

    Rhubarb is Siberian, like a Geordie, it's happiest in shorts and t shirt in deep winter. We've had a late cold snap, it happens, next week will be warmer. 

    Some plants such as beetroot are best started in modules in a coldframe, protected from birds and cold winds, and warmed gently.
