Feeling deflated as a first gardener

in Fruit & veg
Today at 17:23 First time gardener. I've grown some courgettes from seeds on my windowsill. They were going tall so I planted them in containers. Problem I have now that they've gone limp? Not sure why? So much heat maybe? Any one got any suggestions why they've gone limp? I've put them outside over the past few days when it's been so warm and sunny then into a greenhouse over night. But today they look even worse ???? I'm feeling deflated, as they were doing so good up to this stage. QUOTE

I've bought them back into the house. They look ok, sort of alive. I will take your advice and transfer them into smaller pots, as they do look abit lost in the larger pots that they are in now.
Juniper4, believe me when I say, that every gardener be they new or experienced has suffered the same fate. I lost over 100 bedding plants last year due to one night of freak frost. Next day they were just little puddles of slime. Such is the life of a gardener
The good news is that courgettes grow really fast and maybe if your little seedlings have become too stressed you might be better to resow with fresh seed. We live and learn and good luck with your growing season.
It's just sooo frustrating when I've seen them grow and felt a wave of achievement, then for it to be taken away by the Unknown. ????
I guess I'll start planting out seeds later then earlier, as indicated on the instructions on the packets.
Still trying to get plants to grow where they don't want to.
Still plant too closely
Still impatient with seedlings.
We all learn by mistakes, each year my technique improves and I wonder why I didn't do that before. Try again in early May, they grow quickly.
Absolutely. It's called experiential learning. Best kind.
Sow again in a fortnight. Winter might have finished by then. They grow fast, and you don't need many plants. I sow in 3" pots and plant out after the last frost (ha ha) when they have about five leaves. Hardening off off course.
We are supposedly milder here but I still haven't planted my courgette plants into the soil. They are hardening off outside, but with that cold wind and cool temperature I don't feel that we will gain anything from putting them in the veg. patch yet. Probably will next week if the weather warms up a bit.
Sorry - 5 or 6" pots! They get big quickly!
