Hi, I have a summer house in the garden which faces north it has a three foot over hanging roof which leaves no direct sun, its quite light but no sun. my wife wants to put some window boxes in this area but I havent a clue what plants to use I guess she wants plenty of colour, someone suggested Impatiens. grateful for any suggestions.

For a summer display, fuchsias and impatiens and lobelia will enjoy this space.   Fuchsias and lobelia come in upright and trailing forms.    Just give them good compost and regular waterings and dead head the fuchsias to keep them flowering.

Hostas will also do well either in pots on the ground for the larger ones or you can put several smaller ones in a window box.

For winter, a mix of trailing variegated ivies and upright pansies or violas will brighten up the space and, since it's protected from the rain, auriculas would be great in spring.

Fibrous rooted begonias would do as well but very much 'I like them/hate them' plant.

Busy lizzies would do well (in my experience) as they easily droop in full sun.
