Sounds good. If you're into fizzy drinks in large plastic bottles (1-2l) you can cut the base off and use them, without the tops, as cloches too.
Things other than sugar-loaded stuff can be bought in clear plastic 1-2l bottles, like water.
I've done the large fizzy water bottles. Apart from the cloche effect ,last year they managed to save some of my french marigold seedlings. Goodness, the slugs can demolish them in a nanosecond
I've tried French Marigolds. They started off well in my windowsill, but the minute I put them out - all the snails in our (very tiny) back yard homed in for a feast. We have a lot of snails, large ones. I don't try growing French Marigolds any more!
I had the 'Brocade' variety and they were so beautiful. If you can protect them when they are tiny, once they get bigger - mine got to a foot, easily - they are a stunning plant and the slugs seem to leave them alone.
I grew the 'oranges and lemon' variety last year - they started off ok but ended up a little sad as the season went on.
The top half of a ginger beer bottle, the large ones make ideal covers for rooting cuttings in round pots.
