New tomato problem?

I have even less knowledge about growing veg than I do shrubs / flowers....  When I bought a couple of 'trailing' tomatoes, planted in a basket 4 days ago and today see some leaf discolouration I have no idea if this is normal or a 'may as well throw it away its had it' scenario?

Any ideas?

Don't know what sort of weather you are getting in Leeds Andy ? but south of the Watford gap the wind and temperature make it a bit soon for Tomatos to be outside

Do you think that's down to the temperature?  It's actually been beautiful for 3 days, 17 ish today and wall to wall sunshine (just like yesterday).

If bringing them inside might help I'll do it?

Yes,it's great in the sun but to be honest not yet warm enough for them to be outside. It might be an idea to keep them in till at least mid-May then if the weather is warm bring them out for a while each day to harden them off.Hopefully by June it will be nice enough for them to survive outside, even then keep some carrier bags handy to pop over them at night if the temperature drops. The plants in your photo should recover with some tlc so see how they go

Pick off those affected leaves Andy, that's leaf miner.

  • I RECENTLY bought some Tumbler tomatoes which I kept in a cool room . They started losing lower leaves and now only have a few leaves near the top . This is the first time in all the years of growing tumblers that I have had this problem. At the same time I also bought two other plants of Gardeners Delight which are fine. I wonder if this is just a problem with tumblers?

  • Go to Gardeners world problem solving page and there is discussion on pests and treatments. Could be leaf miner fly as Dave Morgan said although you would see more long trails on the leafs. What he says about removing the affected leaves is a good move as whatever bug you have will be contained. I put my tomatoes out in mid May. Saying that I have yet to plant my seeds,
