Thank you for the advice. I have no objection to putting things in the garden which might make an unwary child have a dicky tummy for a while, or taste yucky. A useful learning experience, I agree. However, I think on balance, I would still prefer not to have anything known to be horribly lethal there, just in case. Ironically I am more comfortable with a pond, because I have taught my children to swim from a very early age, and I am confident now that they can hold their breath, kick to the side and climb out if necessary.
