Hello everyone, yes we've heard from several others that the free seeds aren't germinating. Bear with us while we figure out what's happened... I'll keep you updated
This must be the worst germination ever . One plant out of a packet ,in a propogator until the first showing then nothing.Only plant is strugggling. There are more free plants in my compost.
Thank you Nora GW . It is a shame that TM don't bite the bullet and look into their seed/plant supply and performance. They don't seem to care and listen to gardeners both new and more experienced so we hope you carry a little more clout.
I'm glad it's not just me, though to be fair I only tried four seeds initially as I had two other varieties on the go as well and there's only two of us to eat them (tomato chutney anyone?). Of the four only one germinated and I thought it was because I had them too cool so I have sown another four and put them in the airing cupboard to see what happens.
Had much more success with seeds from tomatoes off a tumbling tom I bought from a garden centre last year - I spread a few seeds from one of the last tomatoes on a piece of kitchen roll last year and saved them to sow this year and now have about 8 growing plants. I also have some golden sunrise from a packet I bought last year. They were a bit of a failure because I put them outside in the Scottish summer, but we now have a greenhouse ) so I can move them out there in due course.
No longer newish but can't think of a new name so will remain forever newish.
Useful to know it's not just me. I sewed 4 seeds of four different tomato varieties. None of the Super Sweet seeds have germinated, whereas the others are 75% or 100%.
If you have a glut of tomatoes (like everyone who grows them) you can dry them, bottle them or freeze them for the winter. Bottling worked really well for me last year - you end up with passata.
I sowed the whole of my replacement packet on 19/4. Two have germinated in heated propagator this morning. No sign of any more yet but we live in hope ...

Very disappointing.
No such thing as a free tomato.
