Lawn from seed
Hi all, over the winter my lawn got ruined because of a main sewer drain leak.. The troublesome drain has been fixed but the with so many work men in I was left with a mud pit and a and a very patchy lawn.. 14days ago I aerated my very heavy clay boggy lawn with a garden fork and then brushed in plenty of sharp sand etc. I used the remaining sand for levelling damaged areas and gave the area a good rollering. After loosening the new flat surface lightly with a broom I sowed a good quality hard wearing lawn seed. a neighbour (with a great lawn) told me no need to add topsoil as the seed would take in the sharp sand on the surface. I also didn't roller the seed in after sowing. 14 days today and there is no sign of germination only the original patches of grass are growing through.. Help, have I wasted all that time? Will I have to reseed with a topsoil now and almost start again?

Is the seed still there? Birds are very good at eating lawns before they have a chance to grow unless the seed is coated.
Parky it's been warm cold, warm cold, wet cold etc. Not ideal for grass seed. Patience is a virtue in these conditions.
I'd never expect grass seed to have germinated if sown in early April. Hopefully it will be ok and once you get consistently warmer temps it will come away, unless the birds have had some extra lunch as Ceres has said.
If so - you can re sow and it should be fine.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
at least 3 weeks if sown this early.
