Dahlia borders - in winter
in Plants
Hi
For the first time this year, I'm dedicating quite a large border to dahlias, and already started to wonder what I'll do over winter once the dahlias have died down....would be a shame to leave bare over winter and early spring...what do other people do who have large dahlia borders?
Thanks!

I must confess I grow Dahlias exclusively in pots now; it's easier to bring them out of the frost in winter and I find it deters slugs better.
Having said that the principle is similar; I'll still have a gap! Currently I leave mine bare but over time will introduce various winter flowering bulbs that come up after the Dahlias have gone (nothing revolutionary: Crocuses, Daffodils etc.).
Sorry, that's not much help really. I guess what I want to convey is how annoying slugs are!
