Can I divide Coreopsis?

AlxNicAlxNic Posts: 259

Good morning

My clumps of Coreopsis Early Sunrise have got really big. Are these the sort of plants I can divide? It would be nice to have some in other parts of the garden.

Also , the rudbebkias (planted for the first time last year) seem to have disappeared except for the brown stick that was once the stem. Will they grow again, do you think?

    Hi AlexX,

I don't know if this link will help?

Tahnks for the link, Kay. I also googled it and found some info, so I will have a go at dividing them tomorrow.

Does anyone think my rudbeckias are dead? There's not much to see. On the web they are called ' easy-to-grow perennials ' but having searched the forums it seems they do disappear

I think they'll disappear underground and then come back up... I'd start a new thread with that question?

North american prairie plants will wait until the soil warms up before waking up.

Thanks Darren - although I'm in Devon it's still quite cold. I will be patient/hopeful

I've still got a lot of bare soil here in ringwood and most of my stuff are very hardy perennials

It has been a really difficult spring - it's not just the temperature, although that has been fairly low - it's the biting wind blowing down from the north and east. My garden is always a bit late for the south because I have heavy soil but this year it is weeks behind the normal growth.

I moved my rudbeckias (also planted last April) two or three weeks ago and they are showing signs of new growth (have been for a week ish).

    Sure yours are fine.

  • I divided Coreopsis (early sunrise too) in the autumn - think spring is just as good...I've also found they take from cuttings reasonably well this time of year.

    Good luck!

Thank you all for your replies. I will have a go at taking some cuttings first.
