Nematodes

I've ventured into the realms of Nematodes in the hope of controlling our slug population. Just wondering what other gardeners experiences are?

It does work Claire. Around now is a good time to use it. I repeat it in about 3 months. Certainly reduces the damage.

Yes Claire have used for last 3 years and if used per instructions works well they kill the baby's underground so over time your slug population will be a lot less ,and less adults too to produce more eggs so it's a win win  situation I have very little slug damage now just the ones that sneak in from next doors

i arrived in my garden in June 2012 to find it alive with slugs, all the supposedly slug resistant plants were slug buffet!. I have heavy clay and north facing so dark and damp  for most of the year. I tried nematodes so successfully a couple of years back that last year I went for a succession pack. This year I will probably do the same but it really has made a tremendous difference and I have been wondering whether a single treatment may be all I need each year to stop them taking over again

They do work, but a bit cold at the moment, lots of frosts about and the ground hasn't warmed up much.

Just to add to Sue's comment, no, they don't last all year. You need to do them two or three times throughout the season.

How long do they take to make an effect? I would like to plant and sow soon, but I've only just ordered the nematodes, so I'll probably be applying them towards the end of the week. (And it's going to get much colder next week, so that'll slow them down I suppose.)

Hoping to use mine tonight as it seems to be alright weather until next week (fingers crossed - i've been checking the forecast relentlessly). Already made sure the soil is damp.
