Hello from sweden, I have 2 rosebushes at our summerretreat noone has cared for for the last 10 yeats. Theyre quite leggy and the canes are about 1,5-2m. I have no idea what kind of roses these are. How do i prune em best? Cut all down to 15 cm and try to remove the oldest stems Completely? https://www.dropbox.com/s/rd35rkf1jy61mm4/Foto 2016-04-17 09 07 19.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/yewvpk74oabgrst/Foto 2016-04-17 09 07 33.jpg?dl=0

    I can't access the pictures.

Unless we can identify the roses, you have 2 choices.

Prune or wait to see what flowers they have.

Either way, I'd feed them now and remove weak and rubbing stems.

They're dog roses zingo. Cut out the oldest stems to ground level and the remainder by half.

    Hi Zingo.

The stems are pretty hairy looking suggesting the small prickles normally found in the rugosa or pimpinellifolia type of rose. Speaking from experience, it is virtually impossible to kill the things, especially if that is what you are trying to achieve. I'd cut them down to about 30 cm from the base of the plant and hope they are in the mood to put on vigorous new growth. No guarantees this will work but a bit of brutal pruning is always worth a try.

Thanks for answers. I am going to prune one of the bushes quite hard and see how it responds before pruning the other next year.
