I'd do it how Jinxy says. I sow all hardy plants fresh if I can get the seed fresh, never use artificial heat or artificial cold. Just what the weather does. Most things germinate.

  • Fidgetbones,  this looks exactly like my plant.   i looked at it today and is growing very quickly. if i remember correctly last year it was very bushy at the bottom, and as it progressed the long very thin stems grew out in different directions  and then the purple flowers appeared. although it looked fragile the stems just swayed around in the wind, and it flowered for a long time. thanks for the help. and thank you to everyone who answered.

I found another knautia macedonica growing in my garden a few days ago. It must have grown from one of the seeds from my original plant, which is in a large pot. They grow so fast. I have potted the new one as it was not in the right place, and it is doing well. it is not a showy plant, but when it is windy the whole plant dances in the wind, and it looks so graceful.

I now have a dozen in 7cm pots, growing strongly.
