Mushrooms in store bought compost
I bought some New Horizon Organic Vegetable Compost, in which I have started swiss chard, onions, carrots and many other veg, but along with them starting to sprout I have dozens of mushrooms.
These plants will be for me but mainly my pet cockatiel to eat. Should I throw it all away, remove the mushrooms or not worry about them? My concern is, will they harm my cockatiel.

The mushrooms are just breaking down the organic matter in the compost to make it available to the plants. They won't make the plants dangerous or unpalatable to your cockatiel.
However, if your pet has free access to the tub where the plants are growing I'd remove the mushrooms as they appear, just to make sure he/she doesn't eat them as the mushrooms themselves may not be good for him.

They are commonly known as Ink Caps, probably in the genus Coprinopsis. I get them in the same compost, and sent some Coprinopsis subdisseminatus to Kew as the species is rarely recorded. I agree with Dove. Remove them, some Ink Caps are poisonous to people, but not dangerous. Animals react differently to humans, and as far as I know very little is known, so why take the risk. Otherwise the veggies should be fine. Incidentally they appear and disappear in a day or two.
