Sprouted potatoes

This year I am way behind with my planting. I dug out my King Edwards seed potatoes only to note that they have exploded from the package with long tendrils. It is an amazing sight but my question is can they be planted out? Don't laugh.

I remember one year I planted some potatoes for a friend. They were the very small marble sized ones from the previous year and had sprouts about a foot long and I put 3-4 in each hole but did not give out much hope for anything to grow.

How wrong I was, when I dug them up the potatoes were huge and plenty of them!!

I also rememer my Dad had some spuds in his kitchen and forgot them while he was in away from home for several months.

When he returned and opened the cupboard door the whole space was filled with sprouts some nearly 3ft long!!

Prasanna Hi image I would only plant them if the spuds are still firm and not soft.

They were firm so I have planted them in bags. My only problem is do I cover the spouts fully? They are a foot long.  I am hoping that like Madpenguin, I might get a good result.

Totally cover them and keep topping them up when they start to show through.
