Advice on what to plant in my garden x a

Good morning, I'm new here to the forum and looking for some advice. We have recently bought a new house a new house and have cleared the front garden. Gained about 5 ft of garden.

Looking to plant it all up and ideally like something that will be quite pretty all year around but happy to replant each year.

Many thanks Helen

Bit of a conflict there between the palm and the conifersimage  The soil looks like it is quite stony, is it well drained? And the lawn looks to me like a bit of a pain to mow. Whereabouts are you? Just that my thoughts were that it might be nice to go with the palm and have a bit of a Mediterranen/deserty garden, with things like lavenders, rosemary, Hyssop, Agastaches, Convolulus cneorum, shrubby salvias and annuals like Californian poppies ((Eschscholzia), all growing in gravel, no lawnimage But it would only work in somewhere reasonably warm, sunny and well drained, they won't thrive in cold and wet. Might be a step too far for you to take on board at this early stage in your gardening career, what do you think?

  • Yeah not to sure what they were thinking there hahaha. We are thinking of getting rid of it and putting in a nice statement peice.  Taming the conifers also lol.

Yeah they sound lovely those plants. Just want something that will look lovely most of the year but I'm happy to use annuals to. I have got fairly good general knowledge of gardenI but not so good when it comes to choosing the right plants.

Yeah ah it was very stoney most of those stones have gone now.

Te the border to the right I want to so the same with, there are some lovely tulips that have come up there but want something tallish to give the divide between the two Drives

It gets the sun all day really warm out there and yeah the grass is a pain. They used to have little stone edgings all away around the edge which made it even more of a nightmare lol. its quite a mess ATM but if you saw what it looked like before you would see why lol xx

  • Fantastic thanks so much. I will have a look now. There is a flower show by me in Cardiff tomorrow are they any good to go to for ideas and to buy some plants? Or are the expensive hehe xx
  • Just checked out those plants. All look amazing. So excited now to do it. in terms of order when planting any major no no's or is it just go with the flow haha
