Skimmia problem

Hi I have a skimmia reevesiana which I planted in the autumn. It had red berries on it when I bought it. The label says it should flower in April. The problem is it has still got the red berries on it. No sign of them dropping off and no sign of any flower buds on it. The leaves loom OK. Some lighter green leaves are appearing. Is there something wrong with it? It is in a pretty damp part of the garden but it looks healthy still just not doing what it's supposed to be doing?

  • Isn't it fairly uncommon to get any berries on a skimmia if you only have one?  I think it's something to do with male/female receptors being on different plants.

It sounds fine to me as you appear to be getting new growth.  Mine was kept in reasonably shady area and grew well, though it didn't flower or 'berry' because I only had one.  I suspect you'll need another if you want that.

Reevesiana does not need another to make berries or flowers. It should be fine. I think you just need a bit of patience!

They are each boy/girl ie hermaphrodites so you only need one for it to berry.

That varietie doesn't need a male one, it does it by itselfimage

I have the same problem. It's June now and still full of last winters berries. Should I just wait and see? I'm new to this site and gardening ?
