Wow Sophie your first pallet project looks fantastic. You should be really proud of yourself. I love the funky purple colour, bet you can't wait to start filling them up with plants for this summer.
I'd point out to the grumpy hubby the price difference between paying for a couple of drill bits and the cost of bespoke wooden garden planters, he might be happier when he realises that you've saved quite a few quid there.
I've grown quite a lot from seed that I'm hoping to put into them and I've bought a few violas to plug the gaps until things take off. Hubby has like a million drill bits as I pointed out much to his annoyance We have a very boring parking space, room for 3 cars and we only have one car so I'm going to line the edge of it with my new planters and brighten the place up a bit. I think the total cost will be about 80 quid inc paint and compost so all in all I'm very happy and my xmas money has been well spent.
im having a go at these too this year! They look so cute! I grew something a couple of years ago that was an apple, cucumber, lemon combo. It was really nice!
great to try something new. I was going to have a go at those small orange fruits that grow in a brown papery husk thing (can't remember what they are called but they were on the Allotment Challenge) but chickened out!
Hi Tootles, fingers crossed we get some success they do look fab and are about the size of a grape so great for snacking...if you like the taste. I'm trying black cherry tomatoes, yellow pear tomatoes and sun stripe courgettes this year just to add a bit of colour to my usual "boring" green salads. I like the sound of and apple cucumber lemon combo, sounds very tasty.
I've grown cucamelons for several years and I love them. The're fine outside, but they do scramble around! I'm going to try then in a tall tub this year so they can hang down. I'll put a piece of net there for them to cling to. Hopefully, they'll take up less space. I found them very easy to grow and quite heavy cropping. By the way, those planters are amazing.
Hi Tootles
Cape gooseberries or Physalis peruviana. Easy to grow but the bushes tend to spawl a bit. They crop quite late but store well in their lanterns.

My cucamelons are just starting to sprout! I'm also trying cape gooseberries and chillis and some peppers this year.
