Growing Geraniums

Teresa57Teresa57 Posts: 6

We live in SW France and just today I have bought 60 geraniums in boxes of 10.  They are for our troughs which will hang on the fence outside our house.  When do I put them outside?  Our weather currently is a mixed bag - some warm sunshine, some rain at times and although not cold at night now, we do get low temperatures around 8 degrees at the moment!  Your wise advice is needed!!!

    I'd say above 10?? overnight

Pur then out too early and they will struggle.

Get them potted up and growing before they go out.

I agree.  I normally don't put mine out until 3rd week of May earliest but your location might suggest the end of April should be okay.  As Darren pointed out, a little higher in the night-time temps wouldn't harm, especially if they are in an exposed location.

I live in Dordogne, some years the last frost is mid April, other years it's mid May. I don't put pelargoniums out until the first or second week of May. I remember, a few years ago, sleet and only 2° on the last weekend in May!

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
