compcted soil
as mentioned we've had scaffolders round and they trampled on my flowerbeds..I bought a peony year before last, and was hoping this year may see flowers.. the stick I had to mark it got snapped off and the bed where it is is completely trodden on and compacted, has this poor thing any chance of growing this year? or ever? I have seen a shoot that is pinkish and may be it, just tried to loosen soil around it but they'll be back to trample all over again in a couple of weeks

Can you move it out of the way or is there no safe place?
In the sticks near Peterborough
Best move it if you can at least it has a better chance than where it's at. They're not in full growth yet so it's got a good chance of settling somewhere rather than being trampled on
thanks i may try to move the peony if i get chance i moved one last year doing all the things you said verdun, it didn't flower but looking v healthy this year so am hopeful
