"Dwarf" lavendar

Lou12Lou12 Posts: 1,149

Hi everyone.

I'd be grateful if you could recommend a gardening catalogue that supplies good quality bulk plants.

I need around 36 lavendar Munstead plants for a border edge and I've looked at all the usual catalogues J. Parker et al but I don't want to end up with 36 miniscule plug plants that take years to mature and a bit weedy looking as I've ordered in the past.

36 are far to expensive to get from the garden centre and I need something a bit bigger that a plug plant from a reputable company, I realise I'll have to pay a bit more but I always think that personal recommendation is worth so much more.

Many thanks

My local GC had them in for 3.50 each last weekend, 2 litre pot. The big name GC up the road wanted 9.99 each for the same plant and same sized pot. Are you able to shop around near you? I had some come as very tiny plugs last year and are slow to grow but that's ok for my needs.

Munstead grows well from seed if you can wait. Sown now a viable plant by the Autumn.

Wow that's not bad. Our local garden centre often does 6 for 10 pound offers but have not yet done an offer like that for lavendar. I'm keeping my eyes open because they might.

Also there is a discount place in Eastbourne that sometimes does offers but again it's a matter of keeping an eye out.

Have you looked at the hedging specialists online Lou? They supply it in different sizes and the more you buy, the cheaper it becomes.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Hi Lou, if you don't have the patience for growing from seed, my mum bought 60 (ish) lavender hidcote for a hedge from yorkshire lavender (lavenderworld.co.uk) last autumn, they were really good sized and have grown loads this spring and they r on offer at the min, 9cm plants 5 for £10.99 or 1litre 5 for £16.99, free delivery and an extra 10% off with code YORKLAV10% (dunno if it works just saw that advertised). Another online lavender nursery is downderry-nursery.co.uk, they have a good reputation too, but I've never bought from them personally. Hope that helps. image
