Plant Id please

Afternoon. Can I have some help identifying these plants please? First ones popped up in a pot I thought was empty! And the second is growing in several places in a messy bed

    2nd---Hellebore

    but I could be completely wrong ????

    But I think both these are paeonies

  • no 1 is Paeonia lactiflora--later flowering and with more splendid flowers--but it looks a bit undernourished to me.

    no 2 is probably going to be one of the 'cottage garden' peonies, Paeonia officinalis, perhaps 'Rubra Plena' which is a tough survivor you often find in neglected gardens.

    Make sure the growth around them is cleared and as they develop I would feed a bit. The main thing is that if their buds are planted too deeply they won't flower, so if you move them be careful not to set them too deep.

    As a rule they are not too keen on prolonged spells in a pot so I'd think about a spot in the open ground you could put the first one.
