Pipes for watering
Hi
I was to put an open ended pipe next to a couple of clematis this year - to provide water for their deep roots...think I saw this suggested on Gardeners World a few weeks ago...does anyone else do this? Is it recommended of any other plants?
Thanks!

I use a soaker hose laid along the foot of a fence where I have several clematis and honeysuckles. I give that area a good soaking once or twice a week during the summer - the improvement in flowering and health of the climbers has been noticeable.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Because I am rather forgetful I have taken to "planting" 2 litre plastic drinks bottles next to my most thirsty of plants (especially strawberries in the summer as they are in hanging baskets) with holes poked through at regular intervals. I then top them up as I remember.
