Shrubs in 3ltr pots
Hey folks I am about to do a lot of planting in three empty beds in our front garden, each bed is roughly 3m wide by 1m deep. I was planning on making a backbone of evergreen shrubs, things like aucuba japonica and euonymus emerald and gold, but having looked round a couple of garden centres, most places have the 3ltr pot size as the biggest and they look absolutely tiny. Do I just have to suck it up and accept that there's going to be a lot of bare space in the beds for a little while until they grow? I don't want to overcrowd it but by the same token I want the beds filled as much as possible, especially since a neighbourhood cat started using the beds as a private litter box! Thanks

If you want large shrubs that have taken 5 years worth of care, you'll have to pay for them.
I have no space for hydrangea mariesii perfecta
If you could buy a nice big one, put it in your border and take pictures, I would be grateful
Live vicariously!
tbh BRISTOL ... I've found much better stock at specialist nurseries online ...... I don't want to get into the online/GC argument ....... just have a look online at what you are expecting and see if there are nurseries (as opposed to garden centres) near you and go along and have a look.
My local GC is just about ok for pots (and coffee
) and my favourite nursery is about 30 miles away - but well worth the trip for the plants and the chat and the afternoon out
But ...... on the other hand ......... too large a plant and difficult to settle in ........ patience is a virtue where gardening is concerned
Thanks Jinxy, Verdun!
I think i'll play it safe then with the 3ltr pots especially as I'm filling so much space from scratch, and be patient
Wow, Verdun, that's a great deal on those shrubs - I'm now hoping you live somewhere near me!
