Plug plant problems

Hi folks

new house, big garden, big ideas wee budget so I'm trying to save a bit of cash by buying my container plants in the plug stage.

My lobelia in particular are dying off pretty quickly. I read somewhere that plugs plants should be transplanted then brought on in a warm environment away from direct sunlight. The only places I have for at least 8 trays worth are outdoors in those mini green houses you pick up for £15.

Any advice would be appreciated before I lose all my plants ?

    Probably too cold outside.

    Bring them in overnight
  • We got 5 trays of Begonias 9 plug plants in each tray (45) for £10.00 from B&Q at the w/end. Begonias aren't my favourite plant but they do last well & seem to be resistant most things.

The cat wasn't part of the offer! I usually pot plug plants on for a few weeks to help them to establish & then carefully plant them into their final position. I feed & water a few times to give them a good start & to help them last for the summer, deadhead as needed.

    What a beautiful cat!

  • Thanks Posy - but not ours - he is my daughter's cat (they live next door), he's a great character & very lovable, but he has just realized that he can do his "business" in the soil rather than a cat litter tray - my flower bed is his "new" loo - oh dear!

Mike, are you telling the OP to wait about five days before planting up?

    I don't think that's such a good idea.

  • Thanks for the advice folks. I've bit the bullet and brought them inDoors for a few more weeks. They're sat at an east facing full length window, all 8 trays image. My only worry now is keeping my 22 month old son out of them.

It's supposed to drop to 2 deg Celsius overnight later on in the week In Central Scotland so I just don't want to risk those delicate wee lobelia plants.
