hey, id like to get this area sorted but not sure how to tackle it, i dont want to kill the Mahonia but its all straggly and growing mostly horizontally
can i cut it back etc or how should i tackle this? thanks!
Yes, I second nutcutlet's recommendation here. You will have it looking really fresh again soon. Given the position under the tree it would probably like a good mulch of organic matter and a feed when you do the work.
ok great ill do that tomorrow make some space for some nice ground cover plants n stuff also........its not even in my garden, but where i live, so i just wanna brighten the place up a bit

I'd cut some of the older stems right back. Then do the rest next year. That way you've still got a shrub for this year.
That's Mahonia aquifolium.
In the sticks near Peterborough
ok cool thanks a lot for the advice and speedy reply
ill do it tomorrow
