Mulching with Bark
Hi All,
I have two questions the first is whether or not is a good idea to mulch now?
If i do then obviously thats stops the weeds etc BUT should i let the soil warm up a bit first? If I mulch now won't I just stop the sun getting to the soil?
Secondly I got a price for a bulk bag of £60 Plus vat delivered but my local GC sells them at 3 for £15 (so 15 Bags at 100L for the same price).
Anyone know how many litres you get in a bulk bag? I assume it must be less than 1500L?
Thanks

Hi, the bulk bags are usually 1000 litres, but as Verdun says, ask the supplier to be sure.
I find the bulk bags are easier and quicker to use than the smaller bags if you have a lot to bark up, the bark inside the bulks is often drier and lighter and easier to move with a fork and a barrow.
Hi Aym, not sure if your question was directed at me, but if so I got bulk bags from Travis Perkins last year. We're renovating so it was easy to add some bags onto our building material delivery. They were pretty dry - No probs for me.
But this year having dug loads of new beds over the last season, I got a huge trailer load dumped in our drive from our local tree surgeon (I'm in Surrey). It was cheaper than the bulk bags, I got a deal as we used them over the winter and I live on his road! It had been mulched/rotted down over 2 seasons before I got it and the consistency was great, it looks just like the stuff you see on the beds at Wisley, and it was dry and light-so worth you asking your local tree surgeon for a price. Especially one very close to you. I'm def going to tree surgeons for bark in the future.
