Rats and horse manure
Hi
We have a problem with rats in our garden, mostly wanting to eat our bird food and around our wet boggy pond area, although we are now trapping (successfully) and have taken away our bird feeders (which is such a shame). I now now worried about putting horse manure around my roses in case this attracts them back in larger numbers. Any advise please. Thank you

OK thank you, I think I'll try some around just one rose quite a long way away from where we see them.
Never seen rats around manure except on a local farm and they're there for the grain and feed spills.
hi sue tracey like dave and mr j never seen them around manure unless it is on a farm more than likely it is bird seed.. we have a farm about 300yrds away and just odd time we se a rat I put rat poison down cracks and holes where the birds go I put behind the shed and wall packets of poison and in between fence and wall as I used to have 3 dogs I am carful with it hope it helps just make sure birds don't eat the corn that is poisoned ... michael
I agree Mr J - a warm dry straw-y muck heap is the perfect nursery for baby rats - but they don't eat the stuff.
