Hello little weedy thing

I planted some new type sweet peas - wasnt sure what they would look like. They have grown up looking very suspiciosly like tall thin pieces of grass- is this something that was in the compost?

Do they look anything like this?

If so they're sweet pea seedlings that need more light.

Grass is a monocot, it puts up one spear like seed leaf. Sweet peas are dicots, they put up 2 seed leaves which sit opposite each other on the top of the initial stem, but when they come through they may both point upwards. I don't grow sweet peas so can't be more preciseimage

You do get weeds in compost sometimes. A photo would help

  • Thank you for that detailed answer! It is just a rather lanky species of sweetpea so this makes me an idiot image

I wouldn't worry, I imagine it happens to everyone. I have been cherishing what I thought was a precocious passiflora seedling, but I'm now fairly certain it's a rogue geranium...

Not an idiot at all ..I was once very distressed when my two Hostas in pots started to dieimage I re- potted, fed them and they still died ...no one told me they died back in Winter image

  • Ha ha ha oh my KEF that is just too funny.

Thats almost as bad as trying to get my Rhododendron to bloom for the past three years until the tree surgeon pointed out that it is a Laurel hedge!

And SparklesJD I hope you are cherishing the rogue geranium.image
