  • Unfourtunately, I dont live near a local nursury or garden centre that I can get to without a car even though there are several around the area. The closest place here is a T.H. Whites- they sell some plants but mainly large gardening equipment.

I live on a housing estate - its not too bad where I am - its quiet and I have a garden but I think the only plants anyone would be interested in are the ones you smoke- and I dont mean Nicotiana!

This is my first year attempting a garden beyond tumbing toms and some flowers in pots so I have just started trying to dig out some decent beds around my large piece of tufts- I will not call it a lawn.

I will be very relieved to see the last day of frost so I can get some things out under cloches - I have a few of the bell cloches to put over pots as long as my cat doesnt eat all my seedlings first.

  • Thank you all and advice noted. I have managed to get things more or less under control by taking the advice from a Gardeners world gardening book that suggests to use anything even cans so got some out of the recycling box banged some holes in them and I will see how it goes plus they are about the right size.

    See where you're coming from

10 days ago I sowed 600 snapdragons, 300 lupins & 200 Delphiniums and they've ALL come up, and with space for only 40 full size plants I'm pretty buggered. but I got carried away with it all, I mean who's to know if all or even ANY would play ball with a novice propagator.

So when I get to the firming off stage or potting on, then I'll start sharing the love and giving them to the old boy who comes into the local spar for a pint of milk...or anybody for that matter. I might even do some Gorilla gardening myself colouring up the local swings and the like.

Sounds like you've got the container thingy nipped in the bud (Sorry) and as a few of the learnid peeps here say....its only a temporary thing, so good luck with that, enjoy your gardening

I got 12 9cm pots for £1 from Wilkos today.

Everyone does this - my mother has had 114 tomato seedlings at the last count...
