Chrysanthemums

I have ended up with loads of rescued potted mums- I dont even like the plants and would not usually buy them but now that I have them how, when, and where do I plant the m out in the garden? I dont want to just toss them out but they are taking up too much room and dont look all that healthy where they are sitting outside on a table.

Think of them as cut flowers. Dump them on the compost heap when you have done with them.

Do as fidgetbones says, the plants have had chemical treatment to control the growth, compost them.

  • Okay wow that sounds quite drastic and a bit cruel- poor mums- but mostly its a relief so thank you for making me feel  less guilty!

I am just looking at my seedlings that are all coming on very well - panic panic!!-  I need to start potting them on into their own 3" pots or bigger so will just go ahead and use the ones that the chrysanthemums are in- at least they will be good for something. Do cows  or chickens eat them? I get eggs with the most incredible golden yellow yolks apparently because the hens eat marigolds along with other grasses etc. Now on to my dilemma with the pots.

    Thanks again fidge and corn.
