cutting back,climbing roses.

how far,should i cut my new climbing rose,any ideas.

    Train the main canes as near the horizontal as you can manage - do not shorten the main canes unless they are way too big for the space. 

    Reduce the side shoots to three buds.

    If it only went on last summer you need to look for a framework this year Caroline. Pruning hard will give you strong new growth and you can choose the strongest stems to train to the framework you need.
