Pink acer

Hi everybody. This is my first post so please excuse my ignorance. My pink Acer starts to bud in the pink as it's proper colour but as soon as it is in leaf properly it turns pale green.Does anybody know how to fix this short of replanting in ericacious soil as this is not practical as it's about 15 feet tall.

  • You could try scraping away the top layer of soil and mulching with ericacious soil and watering with sequestered iron.

Some Acers do have leaves which naturally change colour, are you sure it is not normal?

How can you lie there and think of England

Thank you flower lover3,punkdoc and verdun for your observations and advice. My tree must be over 20 years old as it is remnant of Japanese water garden style fishkeeping which was more about  koi carp than gardening being approximately 40ft by 14.Consequently the variety of the Acer is not known.Going by your comments I need to find out what it is.When it is in leaf I will try to ascertain if it is, as one of you suggests ,this could be normal, not a nutrient deficiency as i at first thought. If I can,t identify it I will post a picture of the leaf when I,ts.out.The tree by the way looks  beautiful in pale green in the summer and is very healthy so this could well be how it is supposed to be.We will see.I will let you know if any of you are interested and thank you again for your time.
