Aster dying?

Hi, I planted a lovely Aster Berggarten last spring/summer in my south facing raised bed, and it bloomed well. This spring however, I cannot see any growth whilst my other perennials are sprouting new growth. Could someone advise me as to whether this is normal or if the plant has died over winter? Thanks you

  • Im afraid they can be a bit shortlived Sarah, particularly if you happen to be gardening on heavy clay. But I would definitely give it longer before removing.

Check that the slugs aren't eating it before the growth is visible above ground. Slugs love asters, especially the young leaves.

Ok, thank you! I've bought nematodes this year to help with the slugs. Will give it a bit longer before I pull it.

    Thanks
