I have a few raspberry and blueberry bushes that are doing very well...it's my first attempt at growing them and all the bushes are full of berries. Is it true that I must not pick the fruit the first year? Surely if I don't pick it then the birds will? Also do I have to prune the raspberries at all as the bushes are quite thick? Thanks.
I too have an issue with blackberries. This is my second year with fruit so I think I should get to eat them! However, I have a new shoot coming from the root and I don't know if it is a runner like on roses. If it is do I cut it off from the root and can I use it to propogate? You guessed I am new to this.
By the way, I love the new format for Gardener's World (except whats hot whats now). Anyway, I liked Toby before and as I also like Joe Swift and Alys I think its perfect for me. I realise that many of the established garden owners probably suffer for it but once it gets going I imagine it will be a bit like Geoff Hamilton's garden, split into lots of different types of gardens and so something for everyone.
It was certainly interesting for me to read the article. Thank author for it. I like such themes and everything that is connected to them. I definitely want to read more on that blog soon.
What has happened to gardeners World? I thought I was watching Blue Peter! It has been dummed down and is no longer as informative as it was. Toby Buckland has no warmth and does not come close to past presenters. I wish to learn about gardening not see a garden full of gnomes! Bring back Monty Don
