Succulents might be ok to put in your rockery, weather permitting, but if you mean spiky cacti,  I would think they would be safer in a pot. Nasty things to come across while weeding!

Hello Muma, I think your plants would be classed as succulents not cacti. Sempervivum are often called houseleeks. I have several varieties just like you. If you have a gritty soil in a sunny border they should be OK if planted out. I 'm not sure if the Sedum Gold Mound? Is winter hardy, perhaps plant that as well but take cuttings which you can protect in winter.

    hi again folks,

I was jus thinking instead of me asking about the onces I have , I should be asking which ones do you have that are good for outside, our rockery has holes for pots to go if need be so I can take them inside later.

    thank you

    Hi again Muma!

Your sempervivums will be fine planted out, they thrive in dry gritty soil, sun and neglect.

Sedum Gold Mound looks very pretty, but it is only half hardy, so will need to come indoors when it starts getting cold. It looks like the kind of sedum that will spread, so would probably enjoy a pot to itself.

Sedum spurium does spread a bit and will be happy planted on the rockery, sun and gritty soil again.

The sisyrinchium is lovely and needs sun and well drained soil, not quite as dry as the others. It is hardy but semi-evergreen, so it will die back a bit in the winter, so don't panic! It dosn't grow very tall so put it where you can enjoy itimage

    hi,

oh thank you so much, im just playing with ideas realy, and built the small rockery fo which I have left pot holes in case I have to bring them inside.

im hoping tha one at least will trail along some bricks.. I guess now I shall wait till later on in the year to see if my ideas have worked and if so will pop a pictre on.

    so thank you once again
