Photinia (Red Robin) hedge
I have a 12 year old Red Robin hedge which I have trimmed throughout the years but which has now reached about 8' in height and 4' wide encroaching more and more onto the pavement. I wish to take about 2' off the top and 12" or so from the front. At present it is a beautiful red with its new growth - am I too late? If not I presume the gaps caused by quite heavy pruning will take a year or two to fill with new growth?
Secondly, the nearest plant of the neighbours Red Robin "hedge" (which has never been looked after!) which is the other side of my drive completely died last year and the rest does not look good. Is there a known cause/remedy to protect mine?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Photinia can take a hard prune Steve it'll come back quite happily. Just feed and mulch after pruning. You don't say what the 'rest' is? Is it the bit you want to prune or something else. A pic would help of anything that looks off.
Thanks Dave. The 'rest' is the other two or three shrubs which make up the rest of the neighbour's 'hedge' (I am trying to be polite here!) Any particular feed would you prescribe and as the hedge has a large carpet of dead leaves underneath should I clear that for a better mulch? Thanks again.
Fish blood and bone as a fertiliser, the leaves will rot down, just water it in.
Sounds good. Will cut later in the week. Thanks.
Thanks. It is in full sun but looks superb when trimmed. I just don't know why the one next door on the other side of my drive has died.
