planters

I've spent a bit of today making frames for planters with a bit of trellis. I've made 2 larger frames and 2 smaller ones....

I have used old pallets to make the frames and was planning on getting some decking boards to make the outside, paint and then line them but does anybody have any other ideas? never made anything like this before but thought it was worth a go image

I thought I would need to paint the wood so it doesn't rot

I think pallets are treated wood already aren't they? A lick of paint can only help though. If there are different colour pieces it would make them match.

The liner is most important to keep wet soil away from the wood, don't forget the drainage holes.

I seem to remember a thread on pallets and people had made some amazing things on there. Try searching it and have a look, I think it was just called "pallets".

I was going to buy some liner but also have a lot of empty compost bags so will use them and save some money, thanks for the tip
  • Hey this is a great idea! A very lovely older friend gave me a really nice wooden rocking chair that has a few dowels missing - I cant put it back together so have been thinking of using it in the garden. I would have to treat the wood of course. Maybe make a trellis?

One piece of advice I'd offer you is to put a mitred edge round the planter Sophie. It hides all the 'joins' and finishes it all off neatly.

I finished all my raised beds the same way image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I have a far amount of fence capping hanging around, do you think that will do the job?
