    It's not a cowslip.

  • Ohh hopefully the bees will like this plant then when the new hive arrives in a week or so. Seems to have poped up all over the place.

  • if the clump gets very large, you can separate it, and get more plants.

There are 'False Oxslips' which are hybrids of the native cowslip and the native primrose.

Much rarer is the 'True Oxslip' Primula eliator, which looks like a cross between cowslips and primroses but is actually a separate plant.  It is the county flower of Suffolk and I knew where to find them growing as a child.  Info here http://kloggers-randomramblings.blogspot.co.uk/2011/05/oxlip-cowslip-primrose-and-false-oxlip.html

There are also hybrids between garden primulas and native primroses - I have some of these in my garden.

Whichever you have, it's a lovely thing and as you say, the bees will love it image

The true Oxlip has its flowers all one one side, as per the image

  • HCA Im glad you say that, as after being told to look for this to tell the difference I was pretty sure the were all on one side also. I just hope the bees will appreciate the rare plant lol.
