How Many Have You Got?

  • If I include the ones left in an old shed by the previous occupant (along with a broken climbing frame and trailer and no visible sign of plants anywhere in the overgrown garden so why all the pots??...), I have hundreds. Plus several more hundred for the plants I've put in in the last couple of years. I can't use them all.

Agree on the comments as to why these cant be sold in a more environmentally sustainable way. We do our best as gardeners to be green (avoid chemicals, look after the wildlife, use water wisely etc) and we're let down by the sales process of new plants.

I'm guessing one day there'll be legislation forcing the recycling issue, as with other packaging, so the pots will change - can't come soon enough for me image (and our planet!)

Hostafan  I think that was the gist of the article "Why aren't there more facilities to recycle them"

The Nat Trust use some biodegradable pots but their plants are sooooo expensive.

We have a GC that collects pots and seed trays but they only want clean ones.image As I have little space I need to have a clear out but it's one of those jobs I never get around to. My OH would dump them all in the black wheelie bin if he had his way!

As we all seem to have way over the average of 39, I think this proves we are all above average gardeners.image

Hostafan, I'd imagine that using a lighter on secateurs and knife would eventually damage the blades, so, as far as I'm concerned, that wouldn't be a solution anyway.

Our local recycling facility accepts plastic pots now and I occasionally have a clear out but always fine I need what I've just dumped, even if I still have way more than 39 left.

I keep mine stashed more or less by size and shape on old shelving from deceased plastic greenhouses all lined up against the back wall of the garage in my outside pottering area.   Large pots go under the "nursery" table in the same corner.

I don't wash them till I need them as spiders and other creepies make homes in them.
