I took over an allotment from a chap and in the old poly tunnel were two part used bags of compost. When I went to move them the bottoms fell out of both of the bags and displayed MILLIONS of ants and their eggs. A fine time was had getting rid of all those little critters because I tried not to kill them, just tried to find a more suitable home for them in the wildlife patch.

I'd hazard a guess at a member of the ground beetle (Carabidae) family, due to the forked tail.
