low unsitely fence

could I grow a wisteria over a low fence to hide it or would it be too rampant? Your views please.

First thing I'd ask, is it your fence? or does it belong to a neighbour?

    How "low" is low?

Are you trying to hide just the fence, or what is beyond?

    Hi Phil image

How low is the fence and what is it made of?  Which way does it face and what's the soil like?

You can train wisteria over low walls, rhs wisely has nice examples.

The fence would need to be in moderate to full sun and be VERY sturdy.
  • Thanks for replies Guys. Darren636 I would say its not going to be sturdy enough, the posts are in good repair but the picket style fence is not going to take a lot of weight!  the position is south east, think its best to start again with something sturdy and go with a less weighty plant!

Id go with an evergreen clematis, there's some smashing picket fences draped with flowers near me in early summer
